working at home 05/25/2009

Working from home today. LOVE IT!! So it is Memorial day and no one wanted to work, so I said that I could from home. So here I am working from home. I am having a few technical difficulties, but other than that it's pretty good! I also brought my sketchbook, so that maybe some day I will do another piece. I am working on a few oil paintings. Which is wonderful and bit harder than I expected to get back into. I have not worked with oils in about 6 years. The dilemma was that I lived in apartments with roommates and I did not want to subject people to that oil paint smell ( I love the smell ) now I can do it in the garage and I don't even have to clean up after myself. What a great deal!

My Birthday 05/24/2009

Don't worry I'll post pictures and videos.

What a wonderful night of merriment. We had around 20 performances. They were all wonderful! Singing, acting, dancing, art pieces, readings, poetry... It was lovely. Our stage is broken in now.

This is a pic of my niece playing on the stage.

We went to the 5x7 show on Thursday and Friday night to see my artwork as well as over 1500 other pieces. The whole experience was a bit intense. So many pieces to look at!! It could almost make you a little crazy. One of my pieces sold at the opening. I have never experienced anything quite like it. They counted down to 9 pm and then all of these people started running all over the place grabbing tags off the pieces they liked. It was chaotic, but gave me a rush. I just wanted to start grabbing tags as well even though I do not have the money to buy any of the pieces I wanted to grab a tag too!!

The other part of the evening that I thorougly enjoyed was watching people look at my artwork and comment. The good and the bad~ I loved it!

One couple came up and the gentleman liked a piece of mine but his wife just kept telling him " No sweetie not that one!". or the couple that came up and looked at my pin piece and stated " Oh it's only push pins" If you only knew. But how wonderful to have people just spend some of their time looking at a piece you created and making them think, even if sometimes it was negative~ It was wonderful to touch a person like that. My favorite thing about being an artist. There were a ton of positive comments as well : One gentleman telling his friend not to point at it someone else might see it and get it before him. People just coming up and twisting their heads around the pieces to see what they were made of, how they were attached, etc. I love art openings! I want to do this more often...

Iced Tea 05/12/2009

Lately I have been on an iced tea kick. Merc brought this up after I had finished by 3rd one of the day.
"You sure have been drinking a lot of Iced tea." he said.
"Why yes I have." I said
"why do you think that is?" he said
" I believe it comes from a strong association from my past that links iced tea and summer time. When it gets hot and humid I reach for the tall glass of iced tea knowing that everything will be laid back and breezy!" I said.

Oranges 05/07/2009

Yesterday I wanted an orange really bad. All day at work I was thinking about oranges. When I got home I walked in the door and there he was glaring at me in all his orangy goodness and I no longer wanted an orange.

We watched "Tristram Shandy" last night with Steve Coogan, love him! Hilarious movie if you are every in the mood to laugh out loud a little.

Lights 05/06/2009

I got to spend time with my favorite lady last night, My best friend Ella, we chatted and had some beers...
Merc bought a ton of LED xmas lights... If you know of it Our yard looks like Spiderhouse! That is the basic run down, nothing more to say.

so I was late to work this morning... and while I was running out of the house I grabbed the first shirt i could find while running out topless. I put on my shirt in the car and realized that it is my favorite Mexican restaurant shirt...weird that I happened to grab it on Cinco De Mayo. Not a really interesting story, therefore you can tell that i am having a very boring day.  I'm finding that I really admire Mexican restaurants. By the way the picture I put up is of my favorite mexican resturant in the world, Felix Mexican Restaurant in Houston. I wish I could say go check it out, but i believe last year they closed up. They have been in my families hearts since they opened in 1948... I will always love you Felix!!! Shout out to my favorite waiter Carlos!!

I am taking my artwork in today to Arthouse, so farewell Hair Pipe!

Aniket is my co worker sitting next to me, I just said that I would give him a shout out on my blog! SO yea Aniket!

Update on the stage:
We built the structure yesterday. It is so beautiful! We need the top on it and then we can use it! YEAH! We also watched a few movies that I recommend, Baraka and the Gary Wilson documentary.  Both great films in their own right...
